英語面接での「自己紹介」でよくある失敗（そしてその直し方）

英語面接で最初に聞かれる質問、
“Tell me about yourself.”

この質問はシンプルに見えて、実は最も難しい質問のひとつです。

多くの日本人がここでつまずく理由は、
日本語の自己紹介と英語の自己紹介がまったく違う からです。

この記事では、自己紹介でよくある失敗と、
今日から改善できる「正しい構成」と「モデル回答」を紹介します。

1. よくある失敗①：経歴の“読み上げ”になっている

日本語の自己紹介は、
「出身 → 学歴 → 経歴 → 現在」
という“履歴書の読み上げ”が自然です。

しかし英語面接では、これは 長い・方向性がない・伝わらない と感じられます。

改善方法：ストーリーではなく“要点”を話す

英語の自己紹介は 短く・目的に合わせて・結論から。

2. よくある失敗②：情報が多すぎる

• 仕事内容を細かく説明

• 過去の経歴を全部話す

• 関係ない話が混ざる

これらはすべて “Too long” と判断されます。

改善方法：30秒〜45秒にまとめる

英語面接の自己紹介は 45秒以内 が理想です。

3. よくある失敗③：応募ポジションとの“つながり”がない

多くの日本人は、
「自分の紹介」だけで終わってしまいます。

しかし外国人面接官が知りたいのは、
“あなたはこのポジションにどう合うのか？” です。

改善方法：最後に“Connection”を入れる

• なぜ応募したのか

• どんな価値を提供できるのか

これを入れるだけで、印象が大きく変わります。

4. 正しい自己紹介の構成（4ステップ）

英語面接の自己紹介は、次の4つで十分です。

① Present（現在）

今の仕事・役割を一言で。

② Past（過去）

関連する経験を1つだけ。

③ Future（未来）

次に何をしたいのか。

④ Connection（応募理由）

なぜこの会社・ポジションなのか。

5. モデル回答（3レベル）

Beginner（シンプル）

“I’m a sales coordinator at ABC Company. I support client communication and prepare reports. Before that, I worked in customer service. I’m applying because I want to use my communication skills in a more global environment.”

Intermediate（自然で伝わる）

“I’m currently working as a sales coordinator, mainly handling client communication and weekly reporting. Before this role, I worked in customer service, where I learned how to solve problems quickly. I’m interested in this position because it allows me to work with international clients and grow my skills.”

Advanced（プロフェッショナル）

“I’m a sales coordinator managing key client communication and cross‑team project support. Previously, I worked in customer service and improved customer satisfaction by streamlining our inquiry process. I’m excited about this role because it aligns with my experience and allows me to contribute to your global operations.”

6. よくある失敗④：暗記しているのがバレる

丸暗記した自己紹介は、

• 速すぎる

• 感情がない

• リズムが不自然

という特徴があり、すぐに分かります。

改善方法：Bulletで覚える

文章ではなく、次のように キーワードだけ 覚える。

• Present → Sales coordinator

• Past → Customer service

• Future → Global role

• Connection → International clients

これだけで自然に話せます。

7. Before → After（改善例）

Before（悪い例）
“I was born in Osaka and graduated from… then I joined… and after that I moved to…”

After（良い例）
“I’m a sales coordinator managing client communication. Before this, I worked in customer service and improved our response process. I’m applying because I want to use my experience in a global environment.”

短く、方向性があり、応募理由につながっている。

8. 今日からできる改善ステップ

1. 45秒以内にまとめる

2. Present → Past → Future → Connection の順に話す

3. Bulletで覚えて自然に話す

これだけで、自己紹介の印象が劇的に変わります。
